Robbie: Suicide Squad More Like Dark Knight Than Avengers

So even though the first movie in the whole DC slate isn’t out, we might already know one huge difference between DC movies & Marvel movies. While Marvel movies are packed with humor and light moments, DC at least appears to be taking a more serious approach. Hence the rumors of a “no jokes” mandate that popped up last year. Given that, what kind of tone will the upcoming Suicide Squad movie have?

Speaking with MTV about Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie, who will be playing Harley Quinn said “I think on a scale of like, ‘Dark Knight’ is here and ‘Avengers’ is here, I think it’s more on the ‘Dark Knight’ side of things.”

Now granted, I think there is room for more serious comic book fare, and you have to wonder how dark Warner Bros. is willing to make Suicide Squad, but I also hope the “no jokes” mandate isn’t true, as Suicide Squad has potential for plenty of humor. Sure it should be serious, these are murderous criminals, but some of the best parts of Dark Knight (and Nolan’s movies in general) were the humorous ones. Ledger’s complete psychotic glee led to some darkly hilarious moments. So I hope Suicide Squad strikes a good balanced tone between humor and grittiness. Suicide Squad opens in theaters August 5th, 2016.
