A spinoff of the Lego movie, The Lego Batman movie is in development, currently slated for a 2017 release. Not a whole lot is known about the movie thus far, but apparently it will explore Lego Batman’s failed attempts at a musical career.

We saw a little bit of this in the Lego Movie, when Batman “treated” us to his song titled “Untitled Self-Portrait“. During a recent Reddit AMA with Lego Batman producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller talked a bit about the Dark Knight’s musical misadventures.
"I can tell you that Lego Batman’s inner life as a frustrated recording artist will be fully explored…"
Does this hint at the Lego Batman movie being a musical? Most likely not. The Lego Movie had a couple songs sure, but wasn’t anything close to a musical. My guess is it will be a single flashback sequence in the film. The Lego Batman spinoff is currently due out 2017.
