We all thought it was potentially the case the moment that Marvel got their grubby hands all over Sony’s Spider-Man characters! But there’s something quite difficult about Spider-Man spin-off films when the studio you’ve come to an agreement with are planning a reboot!
Yes, alas it’s true, according to the Latino Review all of Sony’s planned Spider-Man spin-off films have been scrapped to make way for Marvel’s new direction for the character.
"So the thinking at the moment is that Sony will faze out all the Spidey Verse films they were developing. Yes even the Aunt May film (that was real!) and focus on a story involving Spidey versus the Sinister Six."
To be honest I’m pretty gutted as I was really looking forward to the Venom spin-off. I’m also not sure how to take the revelation that the leaked Aunt May spin-off film was actually something that Sony considered. Perhaps it’s a good thing they gave Marvel Spider-Man when they did!
But, you’re thinking, if they’re doing a Spidey storyline involving the Sinister Six, surely that’s good news for the Sinister Six spin-off film right? Wrong! If you’ve read the article we wrote announcing Drew Goddard’s involvement in what is potentially going to be called ‘Spectacular Spider-Man’ you’ll already know that the Sinister Six spin-off is also on the chopping block, as confirmed by Latino Review again!
"At one point they were developing a film that was just going to be a spinoff called THE SINISTER SIX. That’s scrapped but the big news is that the director of that film, Drew Goddard, will write AND direct the Spectacular Spider Man movie."
So there you have it folks. However don’t be too glum! Spider-Man will be starring in an even bigger, even better, more awesome spin-off film! He’ll be in the blooming Avengers! And Captain America 3: Civil War of course!
