Captain America 2’s Russo Brothers sign with Sony Pictures – Could it be Spider-Man related?

Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier was a comic book masterpiece and I’m not even using hyperbole or exaggeration there. There’s even a few people who regard it as better than the Avengers. That’s why when the joint directors of that film do something like sign for Sony Pictures it can only mean good things. But does it mean good things for Spider-Man?

Well, the Russo brothers themselves approached Sony a while back in regards to producing a Spider-Man film as revealed by one of the leaked emails following the Sony hack. But they’re best known for their directing so could Joe and Anthony Russo actually be directing a Spider-Man movie, perhaps even the 2017 one that’s being co-produced by Marvel?

Sadly I don’t think that’s the case. But before you get too disheartened it’s only my opinion based on the fact that it would be virtually impossible for the two directors to direct both the 2017 Spider-Man film as well as the Captain America 3: Civil War sequel they’re already attached to given that they’re only a year apart. Besides if Latino Review’s article is to be believed Drew Goddard is already attached to direct the 2017 Spider-Man movie anyway.

However it’s entirely possible that the three-year first-look feature film deal the brothers now have with Sony will see them direct the next Spider-Man film. And I’d wager that the two men will find themselves involved in Sony’s Spider-Man, perhaps as producers like they initially asked?
