Top 5 Awesome Moments In Third Avengers: Age Of Ultron Trailer

A little work on Twitter can go a long way. Actually, it was a lot of tweeting with the hashtag #AvengersAssemble that convinced Marvel to let the world see the third Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer before it makes its TV debut Thursday night during the premiere of ABC’s American Crime.

With mostly new footage, the third trailer hits as hard as the Hulk and the Hulkbuster Iron Man suit do when they’re trading shots. A bunch of great moments come one right after the next, but we picked out five that stood out, in chronological order.

  • Ultron explains his motivations

I don’t know many fans who think James Spader is going to be anything less than awesome as Ultron, but this scene should help convince anyone who’s on the fence. As Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch approach cautiously, Ultron explains that he was designed to bring people hope, but now he figures, “I’ll take that from them first.” As he sees it, the only path to peace is by wiping out all of humanity. This puts him in line with his goal in the comics, for sure.

  • Tony Stark tells Bruce Banner he messed up

“I tried to create a suit of armor around the world,” Tony explains. “But I created something terrible.” Bruce doesn’t miss a beat by replying, “Artificial intelligence.” We all knew that Age of Ultron would have the dangers of unchecked AI as one of its core themes (and granted, it’s hardly alone there), but this exchange drives that point home forcefully.

  • Planting the seeds for Civil War

Captain America knows who’s to blame for the fact that the world is in danger this time around, and it’s the Avengers themselves. “I’m sick of watching people pay for our mistakes,” he says, while we see what looks like Cap trying and failing to save a car from falling off a partially destroyed bridge. His reaction to Black Widow commenting that they’ve failed in their goal is also telling. Whatever is the straw that breaks the camel’s back to begin the MCU version of Civil War, you can see a conflict starting here.

  • Is Tony considering using an Infinity Stone to battle Ultron?

Two wrongs don’t make a right, but you’ll allow me to mix my metaphors, it’s possible that the Avengers are so desperate to stop Ultron that the ends justify the means. You’ll have to look quickly, but at the 1:15 mark, Tony has Loki’s staff in hand. He certainly looks like he’s contemplating putting its power to use, even though we know that probably won’t end well.

  • The Vision wakes

You know to stay past the credits at Marvel movies, but you need to watch the trailers past the logos too. Though it’s quite obvious by now that Marvel wants to save a full reveal of the Vision until either closer to the film’s release or for viewers to get a look at him when they actually go see it (imagine that!), we see him open his eyes for what is probably the first time.

I could go on about Bruce and Natasha having a moment, or about Nick Fury attempting to rally the troops, but I’ll stop there. Check out the third Age of Ultron trailer again, since we know you’ve already watched it a half-dozen times already, and be sure to drop us a comment and let us know your favorite parts.
