The battle for box office supremacy between DC & Marvel doesn’t really start until next year, but Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara is already taking shots at Marvel.

At Wednesday’s Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference Warner Bros CEO Kevin Tsujihara, claimed DC & Marvel are two very different brands, stating that “They’re steeped in realism, and they’re a little bit edgier than Marvel’s movies.”
Honestly statements like that worry the hell out of me. Realism? The Dark Knight Trilogy took things to a more realistic level and was grittier than the Marvel movies to date, but it certainly wasn’t steeped in realism. And don’t even get me started on Man Of Steel. When executives use words like “edgier” it scares me, because they generally have no clue what ‘edgy’ even means. It certainly doesn’t mean a movie takes itself so seriously that it becomes silly, which almost seems the direction Warner Bros is going at this point just to differentiate themselves from Marvel instead of it being a good business decision. You can certainly represent something more realistic and edgy, just make sure that’s what is actually best for the film and the audience.
