See All The New Justice League Costumes In One Place

If clothes make the man (or woman), the five most famous members of the Justice League are going to be all new people by the time they get to June.

Okay, technically, only one of them is potentially going to be someone different inside the costume, and we don’t even know that for sure. What we can say is that Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Flash and Green Lantern are all going to be wearing new costumes when their solo titles start back up again on the other side of Convergence — though ironically, not in the pages of Justice League, where it looks like they’ll all be dressed as we’d expect them for “Darkseid War.”

We’ve given you glimpses of the new outfits over the past few days, but we figured we’d do a public service and round them all up in a single post.Without further ado, here’s a visual guide to your favorite Justice League members come June (unless your favorite member is Aquaman or Cyborg, but we’ll update this post with them if they end up getting new costumes as well).

Batman

What the heck? Doesn’t Batman have a thing against guns? Well Bruce Wayne does, but writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo have hinted that it could be someone different inside this high-tech suit of armor.

With Chappie out in theaters, that robot was the subject of most of the jokes from people who felt this was too radical a departure for the Dark Knight, but the first thing I thought of was the cyborg partner from the Appleseed anime. Regardless, it’s a big deal any time someone else takes over as the protector of Gotham City, and this creative team has shown a willingness to throw out all the rules. No matter who turns out to be inside the armor, it’s bound to lead to some interesting stories.

Superman

It probably isn’t, but I really hope this gets called Superman’s “casual Friday” costume. Clark Kent seems like the type who would happily donate some money to charity for the chance to wear jeans to work on certain Fridays.

In any case, he couldn’t have picked an outfit that made for a bigger contrast with Batman’s robot suit. I don’t usually read Batman/Superman, but I kind of want to during the first arc after Convergence just to see Ardian Syaf tackle this super hero odd couple.

Speaking of which …

Wonder Woman

It’s going to be a little strange seeing Wonder Woman bust heads side by side with Superman, seeing as she decided to dress up her look even more while he goes sans cape and with normal guy shoes instead of his traditional boots. The question will be whether gold arm blades (I’m assuming those are retractable) turn out to be the summer’s must-have accessories.

There didn’t seem to be much of an outcry from traditionalists or people trying to make DC look like it went too far toward political correctness by covering Diana’s legs when this costume was revealed, something that did happen when the New 52 first got rolling. It’s a little busy, but I like it overall.

The Flash

Not a ton of changes here. It looks like the Flash is getting red lightning effects on the boots to go with the yellow ones elsewhere, along with two different shades of red in the arms and legs.

The belt treatment is reminiscent of the way Wally West’s costume used to look with the lightning bolts pointing … well, toward the crotch, I guess. It’s almost like someone took the normal Flash suit and the one Grant Gustin wears on TV and blended them both together.

Still, the traditional Flash costume is so plain that I’m always anxious to see how people can tinker with it and still stay faithful to the general concept, which is unquestionably iconic. This isn’t bad in that regard.

Green Lantern

Just in case the big “Renegade” across the top of Green Lantern #41 isn’t enough of a clue, Hal Jordan has gone rogue. Thus, that hood isn’t just a fashion statement, it’s a way to lay low. Or at least as low as someone can lay while sporting a huge, glowing gauntlet on one hand.

I’ll have to reserve judgment on this one until we get a better look at Jordan’s entire costume. I will say that with Green Arrow abandoning his hood, this fulfills the DC requirement that one “Green” character must always be hooded at all times. And besides, Hal knows hoods from his Spectre days.
