In the words of the late, great Rod Serling, imagine if you will, a world where the Marvel Civil War event never ended, but raged on for years dragging plenty of other people into the conflict. An Earth where Tony Stark was president, one with a potentially greater threat lurking in the shadows, ready to seize the opportunity presented by having super heroes divided.

Come July, we won’t have it imagine that at all. The top notch team of writer Charles Soule and artist Leinil Yu are ready to bring it to us in comic book form in the new Civil War #1. A Secret Wars Warzones title, it promises to take a familiar concept to a thrilling extreme.

“The primary word I would use to describe this story is ‘big,'” Soule said in an interview with Marvel.com. “It takes the premise of the original – a superhero-focused internal battle – and expands it out to deliver the promise of the title. In this new story, the Civil Wars has been going on for a long time, and it involves all of use – the entire country – not just the super heroes. Without a doubt this is the biggest thing I’ve ever done as far as story-scale. Lord of the Rings-style battles, almost every character you saw in the original Civil War plus more … I feel terrible for poor Leinil Yu for having to draw all this stuff… (no I don’t, it will be totally worth it).”

Sounds like one Secret Wars crossover you definitely don’t want to miss. Look for Civil War #1 in July, certain to confuse non-comics fans even more when the next Captain America movie comes out!
