Is Hugh Jackman Done After His Next Appearance As Wolverine?
By Nick Tylwalk
It wasn’t that long ago that Hugh Jackman mused about playing Wolverine “forever.” Now it seems forever isn’t quite as long as we might have thought.
The actor posted the following pic to Instagram earlier today with a caption that read, “WOLVERINE …ONE LAST TIME. HJ”:
The Wrap jumped in a little bit later, citing sources saying that Jackman was referring to one final Wolverine solo film, which is something that’s been kicked around for a while. It’s been assumed that he’d have a part in X-Men: Apocalypse, but The Wrap isn’t so sure now.
Until Jackman or Fox weigh in with some sort of official announcement, we won’t know for sure. Here’s an undeniable fact to think over in the meantime: with the exception of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Jackman is probably the most synonymous actor in super heroes when it comes to his character. The Australian is Wolverine for all intents and purposes, and seeing him walk away from the part would have a lot more of an impact than heroes who are routinely recast, like Batman or Spider-Man.
It’s also hard to blame Jackman if he’s decided he wants to close the chapter on this part of his career, since he’s already given us appearances in five X-Men flicks as well as X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine. Like the old TV series, maybe eight is enough for him, and we’ll have to get accustomed to the idea of seeing someone else pop the claws over the next few years.
