The 2015 MTV Movie Awards won’t take place until later this month, but we already know that Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr., will receive a trophy on April 12 — and his fellow cast members from Avengers: Age of Ultron might be handing it to him.

Spinoff Online reports that RDJ will be getting the show’s biggest honor, joining the likes of Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, Johnny Depp, Sandra Bullock and Jamie Foxx (not for his work as Electro, I don’t think) as a winner of the MTV Generation Award. Also, I didn’t know the MTV Movie Awards had some trophies that were more prestigious than others, so that’s good to know.
If you consider this particular awards show a celebration of more pop culture-oriented films rather than the artistic ambitions supposedly rewarded by the Oscars, it’s hard to argue against Downey as a worthy recipient. Without him as Iron Man, the Marvel Cinematic Universe could still have succeeded, but he was the first actor to truly take a Marvel super hero role and make it his own, to the point where the comics have been influenced by his portrayal of the character.
Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner are all slated to be there to help him celebrate, and you kind of get the feeling that if anyone can give a memorable acceptance speech on that broadcast, it should be RDJ. It could also be the last chance you’ll get to see the whole Age of Ultron together before you head to the theater to see them on May 1.
