Agents Of SHIELD Synopsis – Season 2, Episode 18: The Frenemy Of My Enemy

Let me get something off my chest right off the bat: I’m not a fan of the word “frenemy.” There’s something about it that makes it the verbal equivalent of fingernails on a chalkboard. Or maybe I just dislike cutesy slang that has entered everyday parlance, I don’t know.

So I don’t like the name of this week’s new episode of Agents of SHIELD, “The Frenemy of My Enemy.” But that doesn’t mean I’m not looking forward to it, particularly since the pacing of the last few episodes, as good as they were, meant that some of the players have remained on the sidelines — especially a certain former team member.

Check out the official synopsis from Marvel and ABC and you’ll see what I mean:

"In “The Frenemy of My Enemy,” a dangerous new alliance is formed as Coulson and Hunter turn to the last person anyone would expect – Grant Ward! As the war between S.H.I.E.L.D. factions continues, Skye and Lincoln will find themselves drawn into this conflict."

I’m fully on the side of those who don’t think there’s any way Ward could or should be redeemed, but an alliance out of necessity makes some sense. The other thing to watch is how Skye affects the SHIELD intra-squad scrimmage. You’d assume she’d be loyal to Coulson, but the show has been throwing some twists at us over the past few weeks.

Another thing to watch carefully over the last quarter of this season is how Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse reconcile, considering they’re rumored to be getting their own spinoff for next season. The star-crossed former spouses are currently on opposite sides of the series’ main conflict, but Bobbi seems to be wavering in her convictions, and perhaps she’ll end up following her heart before it’s all said and done.

You’ll want to be tuned in at 9 pm on Tuesday night on ABC to find out.
