Was there a Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man Easter-egg in Netflix’s Daredevil?
By Daniel Wood
A day or so ago I stumbled upon a still image of Ben Urich’s house from Daredevil episode 12 that could potentially have been a Spider-Man Easter-egg. Since then I’ve just assumed that it (possibly) was Peter Parker that was in the blurry image on Ben Urich’s desk noticeboard but a new article from Moviepilot has caused me to think that maybe we just saw Ultimate Spider-Man Miles Morales instead.
“I just bumped into Morales”
Why do I think this? Well, the MoviePilot article goes on to mention the flashback scene where Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson are clearing out their desks because they’re going to start up their own law-firm. If you don’t remember it’s the scene that looked like this
The important bit about this scene is the fact that as Foggy walks into the office he says “I just bumped into Morales.” Now this seems like a relatively small thing, especially given that the name-drop could just be a coincidence but in this day and age here Marvel blooming well love an Easter-egg, as Moviepilot point out, it seems like too much of a coincidence.
Now, if we accept the premise that the name-drop of Morales was deliberate we then need to see if it makes sense. The article writer, Tom Somerfield, erroneously explains it by stating that both Mile’s parents were lawyers, which is why Morales was there and referenced
However this isn’t strictly true. Mile’s dad, Jefferson, was a police officer/member of S.H.I.E.L.D and I can’t seem to find a definitive answer for what Mile’s mother did, so she could’ve been a lawyer I guess which means that we need to stretch a bit to accept that Foggy is referring to Miles’ mother at the law firm. But if, and it’s a huge if, we accept that’s the case we have to logically assume that Miles Morales is present in the Daredevil world somewhere.

This would work as Miles is from the Ultimate universe which is somewhat darker than Peter Parker’s 616 and he lives in New York. Then there’s the fact that Daredevil and Spider-Man often team-up and finally, and this might clinch it, there’s the revelation that back in the day Mile’s father worked for S.H.I.E.L.D as an undercover agent in Kingpin’s organisation. Which means that Miles has direct storyline ties to Marvel’s newest villain!
So maybe, just maybe, this is a picture of Miles Morales!
