Avengers: Age Of Ultron Primer – Ulysses Klaw
By Steve Lam
Continuing our daily Avengers: Age of Ultron Primer, we bring you a quick rundown of Ulysses Klaw. We thought we’d mix it up a bit and turn to the villainous side of the upcoming film. Being Black Panther’s main nemesis, Klaw is no slouch.
We got a glimpse of Andy Serkis as a pre-transformation Ulysses Klaw in the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer, and the guy definitely looks like he’s up to no good. So let’s explore who Ulysses Klaw is and what he’ll eventually become.
Ulysses Klaw first appeared in a flashback in Fantastic Four #53 (August 1966). He was a physicist who worked in the field of applied sonics — the science of sound and its applications. Creating a sound transducer that can transform sound waves into something tangible, Klaw goes to Wakanda to steal Vibranium.
Arriving in Wakanda, he runs into T’Chaka, the father of T’Challa — the future Black Panther. T’Challa, who watched Klaw kill his father, uses Klaw’s sound weapon against him and shatters Klaw’s right hand. Klaw would later reemerge with a sonic weapon in place of where his right hand use to be. Klaw later creates a device that transforms himself into a being of sound.
