Tom Hardy Is Working On Something With DC … But What?

Tom Hardy just can’t seem to get super hero and comic book projects out of his system, especially when it comes to DC Comics. He’s already played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, and he was set to be part of the ensemble for Suicide Squad until schedule considerations forced him to bow out.

That’s not the end of this story, though, because Collider recently related a conversation that Hardy had with Steven Knight, writer of the upcoming TV series Taboo. In it, Hardy said that “I got I actually got something cooking with Warner Bros. which is also a comic book, it’s a DC thing.”

Comparing it to a more grounded version of Warren Ellis and Darick Robertson’s Helix/Vertigo series Transmetropolitan, Hardy described the source material this way:

"It’s really good actually, it contains elements of all kinds of stuff. From Ocean’s Eleven, to Batman, you can get all the wrappers out and it would be a big, really cool, Technicolor, Pulp Fiction … It’s a psychological [expletive], it’s absolutely awesome."

So not Transmetropolitan but in that vein? The thing is there’s nothing quite like that, which makes it hard to fathom what he might be referencing.

When Knight points out that the Warner Bros. slate of DC films is already set through the end of the decade, Hardy drops one more tantalizing bit by saying, “It’s not even a movie.” That leaves us with TV, animation, some kind of web series, or possibly a video game of some sort.

Guessing games are certainly fun, and this has my curiosity piqued. Hardy is busy for the time being, but keep watch for news that this mystery project is stirring — whatever it might be.
