Agents Of SHIELD Synopsis – Season 2 Finale: S.O.S.

Agents of SHIELD hasn’t been everyone’s cup of tea throughout most of its first two seasons. That’s obvious from both its somewhat lackluster ratings and the reactions from fans on social media.

For those viewers who have been along for the ride the entire time, however, the series has rewarded them with plenty of plot twists and surprises, not to mention real character development. Now on the eve of the Season 2 finale, “S.O.S.,” you get the feeling that the show still have a few more tricks left up its sleeve.

An attempt to broker some kind of understanding between SHIELD and the Inhumans went sideways in a hurry last week, and not in the way fans might have anticipated. Raina’s warning was correct (though undoubtedly made to serve her own purposes), but it was Skye’s own mom who pushed things toward war.

Does Phil Coulson’s team have a chance against an entire village of super-powered people, or is there still a chance to talk some sense into the hawks on both sides? And which way will Skye lean when she’s forced to decide between family and friends?

Here’s what the official synopsis for the Agents of SHIELD Season 2 finale has to say:

"S.H.I.E.L.D. is going to put everything on the line to survive a war that blurs the line between friend and foe. Coulson and his team will be forced to make shocking sacrifices that will leave their relationships and their world changed forever, on the two-hour season finale of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

Looking over the cast list for this two-hour episode, I see Henry Simmons in both parts, so we haven’t seen the last of Mack. Also returning for the final hour is Blair Underwood as Andrew Garner, May’s ex-husband, so it’s possible the prior work he was doing with Coulson regarding “enhanced” people pays off in some way.

It’s been hinted that not everyone will survive this final confrontation, so it could mean farewell to one of the original six cast members on the series. It would be intriguing to see Grant Ward come through with a final act of semi-redemption, though he’s been such a good villain I’d almost hate to see that happen.

Whatever awaits, you’ll want to tune in Tuesday at 9 pm on ABC. Christina Roberts will offer up her thoughts later that night with a full recap and review, secure in the knowledge that she’ll be able to do it again next season. You also won’t want to miss the Agents of SHIELD After Show from theStream.tv, as hosts Germar Derron, Stephanie Pressman, Anastasia Washington and Christian G. Lopez should have plenty to discuss, and you can join in by tweeting questions with the hashtag #AOSAS.
