We’ve been talking a lot lately about DC stuff that almost happened. Some of it at least sounded intriguing, like a live-action Batman Beyond film. Then there’s the things you learn about and were very thankful they never came to fruition. Such as singer Courtney Love playing the first live-action version of Harley Quinn.

Before Batman & Robin even came out, Warner Bros was convinced it would be a huge smash, so they were already makig plans for a sequel, which was going to be called Batman Triumphant.
Batman Triumphant would’ve featured two villains, Scarecrow & Harley Quinn. And screenwriter Mark Protosevich & director Joel Schumacher had actually met with actors they already had in mind for the roles, Nicholas Cage for Scarecrow & Courtney Love for Harley Quinn.
Scarecrow would’ve had a personal grudge against Bruce Wayne. Which probably would’ve been fine, since Scarecrow never has much motivation beyond making people scared stupid. But what about Harley Quinn? How do you make Harley Quinn with no Joker? Well in Batman Triumphant, Harley Quinn would be a toy maker with a grudge against against Batman, who killed her father. Who was her father, you ask? Why the Joker of course!
I don’t know how Nicholas Cage would’ve done as Jonathon Crane, as his acting has always been wildly uneven, but the potential for a good performance is there. Love as Harley Quinn probably would’ve been pretty disastrous. But beyond that, this complete change to Harley Quinn’s origin would’ve been pretty goddamn unforgivable. So again, let us all be thankful that Batman & Robin forced WB to drastically change course and maybe we should just be happy with whatever we get in the near future with DC movies because it won’t be this bad.
