From Latino-Review, we have rumors that Chris Terrio has been chosen to write the screenplay and Ben Affleck to direct a solo Batman film in the DC Cinematic Universe with the tentative title of The Batman. According to the site, WB/DC doesn’t want Marvel Studios and Twentieth Century Fox to have all the fun for 2018. Therefore, WB/DC is now puffing up its chest and targeting The Batman for a November 2018 release:
"Justice League Part 1 is supposed to hit theaters in 2017 with over a year’s break before Part 2 in 2019. The year of 2018 has The Flash and Aquaman, but is relatively DC light with a “unknown” X-Men movie from Fox and Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Avengers Infinity War Part 1 from Disney. Turns out DC is eyeing to plop a tride-and-true character into the 2018 year to reclaim November from Captain Marvel.Yes, the Ben Affleck project Latino-Review previous reported is still a go, aiming for November 2018 now. Chris Terrio, who has writing credits on Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice and has been announced as a writer for both Justice League films will write the movie for Ben Affleck to direct himself in. It’s still called The Batman, and it still sounds like it could be amazing."
As they say, costumers are the ones who win in a competitive market. I’m really loving how DC and Marvel are continuously trying to top each other in terms of films being pushed out each year. Forget about this being the decade of the comic book geek. If this continues, it’ll be the century of the comic book geek.
Terrio must be seriously impressing the studio with his writing skills as his rewritten draft of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was so well-liked that the execs signed him on to pen Justice League Part I and Justice League Part II.
As Comic-Con 2015 nears, I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about The Batman. And with a one-hour panel scheduled in Hall H, there are bound to be some information on all DC Cinematic Universe films.
The first introduction of the Dark Knight in this new film universe will be in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which has a United States release date of March 25, 2016. It will be directed by Zack Snyder, written by Chris Terrio from a story by David Goyer and Zack Snyder, and will star Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Superman, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne / Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince / Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Tao Okamoto as Mercy Graves, Holly Hunter as a United States Senator, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone / Cyborg, and Callan Mulvey, Scoot McNairy, and Jena Malone in unspecified roles.
