Supergirl: New International Trailer Expands On Origin

Time to head to the Phantom Zone! Or rather, we get to at least hear a bit about the Phantom Zone in the new international trailer for Supergirl, which expands slightly upon her origins by explaining why Kara was intended to protect her cousin, Kal-El (you might know him better as Superman) but ended up arriving on Earth after him.

The remainder of the footage in this trailer consists mostly of a mix of scenes that have been featured in previous clips, though I don’t recall the exact conversation between Kara and her boss, Cat Grant (played by Calista Flockhart), that is shown here. We also see Kara lectured by her adoptive sister Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh), going into battle for the first time in costume — complete with heat vision — and complaining about Grant dubbing the new hero Supergirl instead of Superwoman.

The trailer also reminds you that Supergirl is from the executive producers of The Flash and Arrow, which is a canny move considering how popular The CW’s DC super hero shows have been. Unfortunately, quite a few folks who have seen the Supergirl pilot after it was leaked to the internet a few weeks ago weren’t quite as kind to the Girl of Steel, but take a look at the trailer below and decide for yourself.

Supergirl flies onto CBC on Monday, October 26 at 8:30 pm.
