Arrow: Alexander Calvert Cast As Anarky
By Steve Lam
Via ComicBookResources, Alexander Calvert has been cast in the role of Lonnie Machin, a.k.a. Anarky, in Season 2 of The CW’s Arrow. With the announcement, an official description of the character was also released:
"Lonnie Machin (AKA Anarky) is a deranged freelancing criminal who is willing to do whatever it takes to impress a potential employer."
Alexander Calvert is a Canadian actor who has appeared in multiple feature films and television shows: The Troop, To Be Fat Like Me, and The Dead Zone. He has also appeared in multiple commercials for Best Buy, Kohl’s, Road Runner, General Mills, and Mattel.
Created by Alan Grant and Norm Breyfogle, the character of Lonnie Machin, a.k.a. Anarky, made his first appearance in Detective Comics #608 (November 1989). Originally an adversary of Batman, Lonnie Machin was a child prodigy who thought that overthrowing governments was the way to improve society. Later adopting the name Anarky, an homage to his form of philosophy, the character was motivated to perform acts out of principle. Due to positive reception from readers, Anarky would become a recurring character and receive his own title.
Outside of comics, Anarky was unused for years. He made his first television appearance in the animated series Beware the Batman and was voiced by Wallace Langham. The character was later featured as a villain in the video game Batman: Arkham Origins and was voiced by Matthew Mercer.
Anarky will make his debut in the second episode of Arrow Season 2.
Season 4 of The CW’s Arrow will premiere on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 8PM EST.
