Arrow: Don’t Expect To See Green Lantern In Season 4

As a child, Green Lantern, and specifically Hal Jordan, was my favorite DC super hero. His friendship with Green Arrow was one of the richest in comics, so it follows that the people behind Arrow would at least consider exploring it. It’s also worth noting that Hal and Barry Allen were close friends, so when one of the final episodes of The Flash last season mentioned the fact that the Ferris Air landing strip they were using was closed due to one of the company’s test pilots disappearing, it could easily be interpreted as a sign that GL was on the way.

Alas, if a certain ring-slinger is coming to the Arrow-verse, it won’t be during Season 4 of Arrow. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim said that flat out during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, explaining that a recent movie announcement may have had something to do with it.

"They announced the Green Lantern Corps movie, and I’d be surprised if it didn’t include Hal Jordan. It would be great but I doubt it very much."

That’s a somewhat lame rationale on the part of Warner Bros. if true, as the Green Lantern Corps movie is several years away, at best. On top of that, there are already going to be TV and movie versions of the Flash running around soon — and both Barry Allen, to boot — so why not the same for Hal?

Comic Book Resources wonders if the Ferris Air references might be to Carol Ferris, and that she might appear as Star Sapphire. That would be a great way to link all of this together, but it wouldn’t satisfy my desire to see the Green Lantern of my youth given his just due on TV. Then again, there’s always Season 5 …
