Via TheWrap, we have learned that popular science-fiction and horror actor J.R. Bourne has been cast as the super-villain Double Down for Season 4 of The CW’s Arrow.

J.R. Bourne is a Canadian actor who is best known for his roles as the benevolent Tok’ra Martouf in Stargate SG-1 and the cunning werewolf hunter Chris Argent in Teen Wolf.  He started his career in 1994 and made his debut in Porcaria (1994).  He’s had multiple feature film and television appearances.  Bourne is very popular with the science fiction, fantasy, and horror community as most of his starring roles fall into those genres: Millennium, Futuresport, The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, Viper, Stargate SG-1, The Outer Limits, Andromeda, The Dead Zone, Smallville, Fringe, and Teen Wolf.  He currently has a recurring role as Bill DeYoung in the Lifetime dark comedy series UnREAL.

Created by Geoff Johns and Ethan Van Sciver, the character of Double Down made his first appearance in Flash: Iron Heights (2011).  As evidenced by his name, Double Down is a former con artist and compulsive gambler who went by the name Jeremy Tell.  After losing all his money in a game, Tell murders the player who had the most winnings.  The cursed deck of cards owned by the murdered man attacks Tell and bonds to his skin.  Tell soon discovers that he has the ability to detach and direct the cards in any way he wanted, and later changes his name to Double Down.

It seems that Arrow is definitely moving into the realm of magic and mysticism for Season 4.  With Matt Ryan’s John Constantine rumored to be in talks to make an appearance, the series is definitely transforming into the lore of its comic source material.

The character of Double Down will make his debut in the third episode of Arrow Season 4.

Season 4 of The CW’s Arrow will premiere on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 8PM EST.
