You need to take the good with the bad.  In this case, the big bad.  Right off of their recent casting news for Hawkman, the CW’s DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has announced the addition of actor Casper Crump who will be playing the infamous Vandal Savage.

Casper Crump is a Danish actor who’s had various roles in television and film including Lost Generation (2004), Above the Street, Below the Water (2009), Almost Perfect (2012), and Talenttyven (2012).  Aside from his role as Vandal Savage, he has been recently cast as Captain Kerchover in 2016’s Tarzan.

Created by Alfred Bester and Martin Nodell, the character of Vandal Savage made his first appearance in Green Lantern #10 (December 1944).  In 50,000 BC, Savage was known as Vandar Avg and was the leader of the Cro-Magnon Blood Tribe.  Exposed to radiation from a mysterious meteorite, Savage gained incredible genius intellect and immortality.

Vandal Savage has a rich history, but the most important thing to keep in mind is that he is a formidable foe of one of the most powerful superhero teams ever assembled — The Justice League.  Savage’s cunning and power place him in the pantheon of DC’s deadliest super-villains which include Lex Luthor, Brainiac, and Darkseid.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will be the first live-incarnation of Vandal Savage.  The CW’s Smallville came close to introducing Savage in the episode Cure where one-time Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman actor Dean Cain played the role of Dr. Curtis Knox — an immortal who has lived for centuries.  For unknown reasons, Warner Bros. stopped the villain from being introduced.  However, Knox’s traits are obviously based on Savage’s characterization.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – Official Synopsis: When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat – one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is the newest installment in DC’s shared television universe.  The series is being developed by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Marc Guggenheim, and will star Victor Garber as Professor Martin Stein / Firestorm, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer / The Atom, Caity Lotz as Sara Lance / White Canary, Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Ciara Renée as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl, Franz Drameh as Jay Jackson, Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory / Heat Wave, and Wentworth Miller as Leonard Snart / Captain Cold.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow has a mid-season planned premiere on The CW.  No exact date and time have been set.
