The Flash: Female Doctor Light To Appear In Season 2
By Nick Tylwalk
If you’re a fan of super hero TV shows and you don’t make a habit of reading TVLine’s Ask Ausiello column, you’re missing out. Michael Ausiello always has great scoops that don’t give away too much, and he’s got another one this week for The Flash concerning a DC Comics character who will be showing up in Season 2.

That’d be Doctor Light, who was name-checked by Cisco Ramon and Caitlin Snow last season in an episode of Arrow. That moniker is known mostly as the code name for the infamous Teen Titans and Justice League adversary Arthur Light, but it was also used by the more heroic Kimiyo Hoshi, and it’s that version that Ausiello says we’ll be seeing on the show.
Comic book readers who can remember back to the 80s likely got their introduction to Kimiyo in Crisis on Infinite Earths, when she was given her light-based powers by the Monitor in the hope that she would be able to give the heroes a boost when it came time to thrown down with the Anti-Monitor. For a neophyte hero, she started out as arrogant and selfish, but she came through when it counted, harnessing the power of an entire star to aid in the final battle against the Anti-Monitor.
Kimiyo would lighten up (excuse the pun) in terms of her personality as she evolved as a character, serving as a member of the Justice League for multiple, relatively brief stints. We’ve not seen her in comics since the New 52 reset from a few years ago, but since The Flash has been drawing from all eras of DC history for its inspiration, that shouldn’t matter much on TV.
As much as it would have been great for the villainous Doctor Light to appear, there haven’t been any heroic female metahumans on The Flash to date (pending Caitlin’s date with becoming Killer Frost, that is), so his heroic counterpart will be a welcome arrival. Season 2 of The Flash kicks off on Tuesday, October 7 at 8 pm on The CW.
