Warner Bros. CEO “Extremely Confident” In Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice

It hasn’t been the best year for Warner Bros. at the box office. An in-depth article by The Hollywood Reporter explains that after a bunch of its heavily promoted films flopped in 2015, there’s some pressure building for the people in charge of the company’s movie division.

That pressure would grow even greater if the films based on DC Comics characters don’t turn into a sustainable source of revenue, because the slate of those movies is ambitious and runs for the next five years. It would be a lot worse for Warner Bros. if, say, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice failed to deliver than it was for Fantastic Four to fizzle for Fox.

Most people don’t expect that to happen, including Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara. He told THR that even though delaying Batman v Superman from its originally targeted Summer 2015 release to the first quarter of 2016 may have hurt the studio in the short term, it’s going to pay off once fans get to see it.

"It was a tough decision at the time because it was going to create a hole in 2015. But it was absolutely the right decision for the franchise, for DC and the movie. Having seen the movie multiple times, and again last night, I’m extremely confident it was the right decision to make the movie better. And it’s so important for the studio to get the foundation right on DC."

It’s difficult to argue against his last statement. Since Batman v Superman lays the groundwork for all of the DC movies that follow, including the first on-screen appearances of Wonder Woman, Aquaman and the Flash, among others, it’s critical not to have the film misfire.

Tsujihara’s job might even depend on it. That’s a lot of weight to put on the shoulders of the Justice League, but they’ve tackled more intimidating threats than that before and always managed to come out on top. From a fan’s perspective, I’m just hoping Mr. Tsujihara’s faith in Batman v Superman is rewarded, because then we’ll all be in for a treat.
