Legends of Tomorrow: Hawkman To Play A Major Role
By Nick Tylwalk
Hawkgirl was one of the first new heroes announced for DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, and it was clear right from the start that Kendra Saunders (played by Ciara Renee) was going to be a vital member of the show’s cast.

It wasn’t until Comic-Con that we learned that Hawkman would be joining her, and we’ve since learned that the Winged Warrior will be dropping in on The Flash and Arrow too. Most people assumed he would be a guest star, someone who would help the unlikely team in Legends of Tomorrow but not necessarily a full time presence.
Happily for Hawkman fans, that won’t be the case. Executive producer Phil Klemmer was asked by DCLegendsTV if Hawkman would be a “regular part of the show,” and he didn’t shy away from answering affirmatively.
"He is. He absolutely is."
Klemmer went on to brush aside any fears that he would overshadow Hawkgirl by explaining that the two characters are inextricably linked in a cycle of death and rebirth, fated to be reincarnated over time and find their way back together — though in their current forms, only Hawkman realizes that. Comic book fans might recall that aspect of the Hawks as a key component of their relationship from the Geoff Johns-written JSA series that began in 1999 (and the Hawkman series of the time that was later retitled Hawkgirl), and Klemmer acknowledged that as a big time influence.
"Yeah. Exactly! They’re constantly fighting, and the fact that they’re destined to be in love is something that seems impossible to her. That’s the kind of sentimentality that we really strive to avoid on this show. The fact that they’re going to be together someday, we try desperately at every moment to disprove that, this is going to be the one time that they decide to, like, shoot each other in the face."
Sounds like it could be a fun dynamic, especially when the Hawks are dealing with a ragtag group of heroes and Rogues at the same time. We’ll get to see the star-crossed lovers in action together when Legends of Tomorrow hits The CW sometime in 2016.
