The Flash: Three Theories On Who Has The Season 2 Cast All Freaked Out

As we await the return of The Flash for Season 2, we’re starting to get our first glimpses of what’s in store. The first promo has already been released, and some images are starting to trickle out as well.

One of those came today exclusively via TV Insider. As you can see below, it shows a bunch of familiar faces from the cast of The Flash, including Joe and Iris West, Caitlin Snow, Cisco Ramon, Professor Martin Stein, and of course, Barry Allen. The thing is, they look a little bit freaked out to see … someone at S.T.A.R. Labs, to the point where Joe even has his gun drawn.

So who could be causing out favorite folks to wear that mix of surprise and concern? We’ve got three theories.

  1. Harrison Wells … as in, the real Harrison Wells. Fans of The Flash know that Wells was killed several years before the events of Season 1, and his identity was assumed by Eobard Thawne, better known as the Reverse-Flash. However, the events of the Season 1 finale erased Thawne from existence. So it stands to reason the real Wells might not be dead and could easily be back in charge of S.T.A.R. Labs, especially since actor Tom Cavanagh is still in the fold. And since all of the folks pictured here know him as Thawne, they wouldn’t be all that crazy about seeing him back lest it mean the villain’s return — not that Joe’s pistol would do much good if the Reverse-Flash was back! Of course that would raise all kinds of questions about how everyone (other than Cisco, whose budding powers give him memories of alternate timelines) would remember Wells  as a bad guy anyway, but I’m confident the show would explain it somehow.
  2. Jay Garrick – The original comic book Flash is on his way in Season 2, supposedly to warn Barry of an impending threat. Assuming he’s already hip to the fact that Barry and friends operate out of S.T.A.R. Labs, Jay could easily just be in there waiting for them. An unfamiliar meta-human, even one with his own version of the lightning bolt symbol, would certainly warrant caution from Team Flash.
  3. Zoom – Maybe the most surprising aspect of early Season 2 teasers is the idea that Zoom is coming. Whether this is the Hunter Zolomon version of the villain or not remains to be seen, but it could be that another man in yellow is paying Flash and friends a visit. I’d say this is the least likely of our three theories, as I’m not expecting Zoom to show up this early, but you never know.

If you’ve got theories of your own, leave them in the comments section below or holler at us on Twitter. The Flash returns to The CW for its Season 2 premiere on Tuesday, October 6.
