The Flash: Demore Barnes Joins Cast As Firestorm Villain

I only owned one issue of The Fury of Firestorm as a young lad, and it was one where the Nuclear Man tangled with Tokamak, the Human Reactor. Lo and behold, I’ll get to see him come to TV alongside all of you fairly soon.

Comicbook.com broke the exclusive news earlier today that Demore Barnes was joining the cast of The Flash as Henry Hewitt, who will also become Tokamak. It appears that Team Flash expects him to be a good guy, considering that he’s asked to join the S.T.A.R. Labs team by Caitlin Snow, but the smart guess is that he doesn’t remain on the side of the angels for long.

In print, Hewitt was not “a charming but cocky scientist” but a businessman with serious political clout. He attempted to recreate the accident that merged Ronnie Raymond and Professor Martin Stein on himself, but instead of giving him the power to rearange molecules, he was able to fire energy rings that could squeeze objects or break them down into their component molecules.

Not coincidentally, the word “tokamak” is a Russian one that refers to a device that uses a magnetic field to contain plasma. Hewitt wasn’t all bad, though, as he was responsible for turning Lorraine Reilly into Firehawk, who ended up having one of the cooler costumes for any obscure super hero ever.

Barnes is a TV veteran, with a regular role on The Unit and appearances in genre fare like 12 Monkeys, Supernatural and Fringe. We’ll see how long it takes him to turn from friend to foe in Season 2 of The Flash, which gets underway on Tuesday, October 6.
