First Look: Doctor Strange #1 Takes A More Direct Approach To Fighting Evil
By Nick Tylwalk
A long time ago, Stephen Strange was the kind of doctor that would solve problems with a scalpel. Now, even with the might he commands as Sorcerer Supreme, he’s going to find that there are some threats for which a much bigger bladed instrument is better suited – like, say, an axe.

Doctor Strange #1 promises a more hands-on Master of the Mystic Arts than we’ve ever seen before. Under the guidance of writer Jason Aaaron and artist Chris Bachalo, the Doctor will be back on duty safeguarding the new Marvel Universe from all kinds of supernatural threats.
Only this time, one will arise that Strange knows he won’t be powerful enough to stop with his usual magic. Thus, the pictures you’ve seen on him carrying a battle axe. As Marvel puts it, “it’ll take a new kind of Sorcerer Supreme. Because all magic comes with a price, and it’s high time Stephen Strange balanced the scales.”
That’s giving me chills just typing it! And the timing is right, because as you may have heard, there’s a Doctor Strange movie on the way next November. Everyone needs to get to know him now.
Or at least on October 7, when Doctor Strange #1 hits stores and digital, complete with a backup story by Aaron and Kevin Nowlan. We’ve got a few preview pages below to tide you over, plus variant covers by Nowlan and Skottie Young. The Doctor is most definitely in!
