First Look: Guardians Of The Galaxy #1 Has The Raccoon In Charge
By Nick Tylwalk
Thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, most fans just assume Star-Lord is the leader of the team. Traditionally, he’s held that role more often than not. Let’s say, though, that Peter Quill wasn’t around. Someone would have to step up and fill the leadership void. Someone like, say … Rocket Raccoon?

Believe it or not, that’s exactly what we’re going to see in the new Guardians of the Galaxy #1. Though not exactly known for his inspirational speeches or rah-rah demeanor, Rocket is being installed as leader of the Guardians by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Valerio Schiti. Hilarity will ensue, or so you figure.
Not that he had much choice in the matter. Eight months after the end of Secret Wars, the Guardians are feeling betrayed since Peter left to sit on the throne as the ruler of Spartax. Rocket was only too happy to take the reins as leader, and his team includes Groot (naturally), Drax, Star-Lady (actually Kitty Pryde), Venom and the Thing. Yes, the rocky guy from the Fantastic Four. He and Rocket should get along just great.
The galaxy still needs guarding, and we’ll see if Rocket’s bunch is up to the task when Guardians of the Galaxy #1 blasts into stores and digital on October 14. Until then, please check out the preview pages below, and be prepared — the raccoon is in charge now!
