New Avengers #1 First Look: Welcome To Avengers Idea Mechanics

One of the more underrated concepts in Jonathan Hickman’s sprawling Avengers and New Avengers run was Sunspot buying A.I.M. and making it a force for good instead of evil. It was a clever twist and a believable one. Except for some bad actors among its leadership, most members of A.I.M. just wanted to do some science, regardless of who was paying the bills.

Happily, Marvel isn’t letting that set-up go to waste just because Secret Wars happened. New Avengers #1 sees Sunspot still in charge of A.I.M., now reborn as Avengers Idea Mechanics. His new team includes Hawkeye, Songbird, Power Man, White Tiger, Pod, Wiccan, Hulkling and Squirrel Girl.

It’s an oddball group, but it’s perfect for a team that answers to no one. As Marvel puts it, “America doesn’t want them! S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn’t know what to do with them!” Sounds like fun.
