Wait…Batman v Superman is Man of Steel 2 After All?

When they announced Batman v Superman at SDCC 2 years ago it surprised the Hall H crowd because we all expected the announcement of Man of Steel 2. Instead they revealed they were fast tracking the shared cinematic universe by postponing the sequel and introducing more characters of the Justice League.

The idea of starting the universe with a Superman movie was an important jumping off point seeing as Action Comics #1 was the beginning of the DC universe and true superhero comics. So what happened to Man of Steel 2?

We’d heard Mad Max creator/director and almost-director of Justice League Mortal George Miller is in line to helm the sequel, but now it seems that it won’t be the second installment. Zack Snyder addressed this with an interview with Canoe.com

"I think in a way Batman v Superman is Man of Steel 2. Justice League is kind of the transcendent, knights-of-the-round-table of the story. It’d be interesting to think about what a standalone Superman movie might be."

Well, sounds like future Superman movies are on the back burner. That’s a shame, really, because we still haven’t seen a good film starring the Metropolis Marvel since Richard Donner’s Superman ’78. I understand the want for WB to focus on Batman, seeing as the Dark Knight is a more popular character, but if you make a good Superman film people will like Superman again.

Just look at Guardians of the Galaxy or even Iron Man. Build it and they will come.
