Batman v Superman ‘Most Grounded Comic Book Movie Ever’
Batman v Superman is a movie about a billionaire who dresses up in a bat suit to fight crime. An invincible flying alien orphaned from another planet. And a woman who is a powerful amazonian princess. And despite this, various cast and crew have kept pounding the drums of how serious, dark and “grounded” Batman v Superman and indeed the DC universe in general is (especially compared to Marvel’s somewhat light fare).
Scoot McNairy, who is in Superman, but his role has been kept under tight wraps (he’s been rumored to be everything from a crippled Jimmy Olsen to Metallo) is the latest to pile on how “grounded” this movie about fantastical superhero movie is:
"This is the superhero film that is more grounded in reality than any of the other ones. It’s a comic book movie, yes, but it’s very, very grounded."

Seriously, what does that even mean when you have a movie about 3 of the most over-powered heroes in comic book history? Even Batman. You say he’s human, but he literally possesses skills far above what could possibly be achieved at times. Superman’s power is basically “everything” and Wonder Woman has often been so ill-defined she has often been changed to fit the situation.
And is grounded and realistic even what we want from a superhero film? Sure, Marvel may go too far the other way sometimes (no one important dies!), but the answer isn’t necessarily to go to the other extreme. We’ll just have to hope that grounded and dark doesn’t equal boring and absurd when Batman v Superman hits theaters in March.
