Suicide Squad: New Stills And Details!

The new Empire magazine featuring Suicide Squad has all sorts of new info regarding the characters of the upcoming film, along with a bunch of new pictures we actually haven’t seen before.

The most interesting detail may be about Katana, the most mysterious member of the Suicide Squad. Much like Rick Flag, she’s not a criminal forced to do Amanda Waller’s bidding. In fact, Katana is Flag’s bodyguard. Flag probably wouldn’t normally need a bodyguard, but when you are forcing some of the world’s most dangerous criminals to do your bidding, you take extra precautions. And Katana’s sword isn’t just a nice sharp piece of steel. It also traps the souls of it’s victims. This is being true to comic source material, but with all the talk of DC being a “more grounded” movie universe, I wouldn’t have been surprised if they left the soul stealing bit out.

There’s also some brief descriptions of some of the key characters in Suicide Squad from the people playing them:

Katana: “She has morals and codes. She’s can also slice through hundreds of people without taking a breath.

Slipknot: “He’s formidable. He can climb anything. And he hangs people for a living. I joke that he was caught strangling Wonder Woman. I downloaded this app called Grog Knots. Now I could tie up a horse.”

(Captain) Boomerang: “He’s an absolute bogan, in the purest sense. Dave’s first instruction was, ‘Find your inner shitbag.'”

Diablo: “Most of these guys are happy to get out there and kill people, but he jut wants to stay put of the fight.”

Killer Croc: “He’s a cannibal with rage issues. Although he only eats the most talented people. He’s picky.”

Colonel Rick Flag: “Flag is the highest level operator working for the government. He’s had lots of friends die and has killed many, many people. Deadshot gives him the most problems. Harley is easily distracted, but up for following orders if it means destroying things…”

But there’s plenty of characters not even being mentioned here such as Amanda Waller, Enchantress, and only brief mentions of Deadshot & Harley Quinn, so there’s plenty being kept secret as well.

And while we’ve heard plenty of other people talk about Jared Leto’s performance as the Joker in Suicide Squad, this is the first time Leto himself has really discussed his role since filming:

"There was definitely a period of…detachment. I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn’t imagine doing it another way. It was fun, playing those psychological games. But at the same time it was very painful, like giving birth out of my prick hole. I always get the sense that The Joker may be much older than people think. It’s something different. If you don’t break rules, you’re not going to strike new ground. I think I’ll be cooling down for the rest of my life."

Also commenting on Joker’s new look for Suicide Squad, producer Charles Roven said it was based off of Mexican Cartels and that this Joker is both a sociopath and a more social and successful business man.

Finally we have some new stills. Some of these are first looks at characters like Amanda Waller and better looks at characters such as Enchantress. But I think most important is a scene where Dr Harleen Quinzel is analyzing the Joker. Will the finally put to rest the rumors that Joker is Jason Todd? Because this makes it really obvious that it is The Joker and not somebody reborn as a new Joker. Check out the pics from Suicide Squad below and hope the next 10 months goes by pretty quick…
