Amanda Waller On Amanda Waller
Warner Bros. seems somewhat comfortable having multiple versions of characters between their TV shows and movies. There’s a TV Flash and a movie Flash. And I say somewhat comfortable because Arrow has used lots characters only to have them nixed by the higher-ups so because they have big movie plans for them (i.e. there was supposed to be a whole Suicide Squad spin-off series, but that was aborted because of the movie).
One character who Warner Bros. seems ok with having multiple versions of is Amanda Waller. Amanda Waller has been a key figure on Arrow, played by actress Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and then the big screen version of Amanda Waller will be played by Viola Davis in next year’s Suicide Squad film. What does Addai-Robinson think of the someone else taking on the role she’s done for years already?
"Oh, I’ll be the first in line. I can’t wait. I’m like super-pumped to see the movie and of course, I’m excited Viola Davis is going to be doing her version of Amanda Waller. And I’m very honored to even be in the same company, in terms of the other actresses that portrayed that character — Angela Bassett, C.C.H. Pounder, Pam Grier. A lot of fierce, amazing women. And I know Viola Davis is going to knock it out of the park, so I’m gonna be in line with everyone else waiting for the movie."

I think most impressive part of that comment is Addai-Robinson listing of previous people who have played Amanda Waller, she clearly knows her stuff. Whether you agree with Warner Bros. having separate TV & movie universes or not, the arbitrary nature in what characters they allow on shows like Arrow & The Flash because they might have big movie plans for them is completely ridiculous. Either have them actually be completely separate and don’t hamstring the TV side (or the movie side for that matter) or make them connected. Can’t go halfway.
