11. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The folks at Screen Junkies got it right with this description of The Winter Soldier:
"You weren’t that impressed with his first movie. He wasn’t your favorite Avenger. Now, get ready for the sequel that made everyone say, “Holy s@#%! Who knew Captain America kicked so much ass?"
Honestly, though, that thought process really began with the trailer. It starts with a humorous exchange between Cap and Black Widow about his lack of a social life, followed by Steve Rogers jumping out of a plane — without a parachute. That’s already a big sign that this isn’t just a cynical cash-in between Avengers movies.
Before it’s over, we get a taste of the philosophical underpinnings of the film, a terse conversation with Nick Fury that shows the MCU Cap’s growth as a character and tons of action, including a snippet of the incredible elevator fight scene.
Add in the Winter Soldier and Falcon looking all kinds of badass and this one was a ticket-seller. A great trailer for what turned out to be an exceptional movie, one of the best we’ve seen from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date.
