Stephen Amell Says His Arrow Would Beat Batman

Forget Batman v Superman. How about Batman v Green Arrow?

Well, the Arrow version of Green Arrow in this case. TV’s Oliver Queen, Stephen Amell, claims he knows who would come out on top if a fight ever came about between the two on screen heroes.

See, the sad thing about Green Arrow is that his early incarnations were rather cheap. After his first appearance in 1941, it became glaringly obvious that he was just a product of trying to replicate the success and popularity of Batman.

He had all the tricks. There was a cave, a signal and even a teenage sidekick.

Yeah, see? kinda lame.

Thankfully the character came into his own as he moved into the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, becoming a liberal crusader for social justice. Eventually Oliver Queen became often at odds with billionaire industrialist Bruce Wayne in means and motives, even though they seem to have similar goals.

One of the big complaints about the CW’s portrayal of the character is that it has very little to do with the comic incarnation and is just a rehashing of modern versions of Batman. But kills people. Not everyone agrees with that assessment, but I personally do.

So, what would happen if the two heroes actually threw down on screen? Would it be a wholesale slaughter by the Dark Knight or would Ollie hold his own?

Stephen Amell thinks he knows.

"Me.What do you want me to say? Well, Batman’s more experienced and his costumes cooler, and Arrow’s just a ripoff, so Batman would win for sure. No, I would win, absolutely."

Bold statement. Don’t know if I agree, but I’m a little biased. I’ve always maintained that Batman could beat anyone he ever faces. He’s the World’s Greatest Detective for a reason: problem solving skills.

He said all this at the Heroes & Villains Fan Fest where he was also asked about Arrow’s ties to the Bat-universe and if it were feasible to bring in other characters…like the Joker.

"Well, I mean, the short answer is yes, of course. Within the DC Universe, if they are in the DC Universe, if you were to ask if Iron Man could come to Arrow, I would be like, ‘Well, no, probably not.’But of course, The Joker could come to Arrow, Batman could come to Arrow, Superman could show up on The Flash. There’s a whole myriad of options because again DC and WB have a slate of films coming up, and those films happen, and maybe Arrow’s still around when they’re done. Or maybe there’s a change and people are just like, ‘You know what, let’s invest in something that’s doing well for us.’ So you never know."

I appreciate his confidence, but it sounds like wishful thinking. I think you’re unlikely to see much crossover between the characters in the films and the Arrow-verse. Unless…

The Greg Berlanti-run shows (Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow) do culminate with a Crisis on Infinite Earths-type – crossover as is speculated – and they actually show us something that reveals the parallel Cinematic Universe.

That’s what I’m holding out for.
