Batman V Superman: Gal Gadot Didn’t Know She Was Auditioning For Wonder Woman

It’s pretty well known among fans of superhero movies that the studios have to go to some extreme measures to keep potential casting and plot details under wraps. Still, this story might take the cake: The person playing Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice didn’t even know she was trying out for that part during her audition.

That surprising but true tidbit comes from Gal Gadot herself in a new interview with Empire magazine. Though she says she “could have guessed” if she had given it more thought, she actually believed she was reading for the role of Selina Kyle, better known as Catwoman.

As far as we know, Catwoman isn’t in Batman v Superman, but we’ll still give her credit for an acceptable guess. Gadot was finally let in on her true part when she was summoned to do screen tests with the new Batman.

"I only knew what role it was when I flew in to test with Ben (Affleck). I was very excited. Anytime I had general meetings in LA, I always said that my dream role was to do an empowered, independent woman who doesn’t rely on men."

Sounds like this should be Gadot’s dream come true, since Wonder Woman not only figures to have a sizable presence in Batman v Superman but will also star in her own solo film next year. Production is already underway on that movie, which promises to delve into the DC Extended Universe origin of the Amazon Warrior in more detail.

This version of Wonder Woman looks like she means serious business, but Gadot also told Empire that we shouldn’t expect her to be completely grim either.

"I don’t want people to think she is perfect. She can be naughty."

The full interview with Gadot appears in this month’s print edition of Empire. We’ll see how she stepped up to the challenge of her former mystery role when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in theaters on March 25.
