There Was No Helicarrier In Deadpool
By Nick Tylwalk
A wise man named Obi-Wan Kenobi once said, “Your eyes can deceive you. Don’t trust them.” So even though you may have thought you saw a Helicarrier in Deadpool, you actually did not.

It’s understandable that you thought you did. Big flying things that don’t actually look like they should be flying always bring to mind the signature mode of transportation for SHIELD, as unreliable as they often turn out to be.
The thing is, a Helicarrier is very much a Marvel idea, something that doesn’t inherently have anything to do with the X-Men. As such, Fox doesn’t have the movie rights to the Helicarrier. You can see why it might be a problem for one to show up in Deadpool.
Fortunately, as director Tim Miller explained to Collider, that definitely wasn’t a Helicarrier, so there’s no problem. Nothing to see here, move along (#WinkyFace?).
"I just want to say for the record, there’s a lot of groups in the Marvel Universe who use flying combat platforms. It’s not just a helicarrier. AIM has some. There’s a lot of groups that do. It could have been anything but a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, because that would be outside the purview of the Fox/Marvel arrangement. I really just wanted to hint at a larger connection to the Marvel Universe."
In other words, Miller wanted viewers to think of a Helicarrier without actually using one, because that’s a good way to “hint at a larger connection” without getting himself or Fox into hot water from a legal standpoint. Mission accomplished, we’d say.

Besides, fans should know by now not to take anything Deadpool-related at face value. Your eyes just fooled you a little bit on this one, that’s all.
