Batman V Superman: Ultimate Edition Details

Over a week ago, we reported that Warner Bros. is planning to release an R-rated home video version of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition.  Despite the theatrical release’s long running time of 2 hours and 31 minutes, moviegoers will actually be seeing a cut down version.  Who knows what Warner Bros. edited out to get the PG-13 rating?  Well, in a recent interview with producer Charles Roven, Entertainment Weekly reveals some details as to what we may see in the Ultimate Edition.

"If BvS sounds crowded, it actually got smaller as time went on. The PG-13 movie’s 2 hour 31 minute runtime will expand further with an R-rated “Ultimate Edition” on home video, featuring even more brutal fight scenes as well as additional hints at future films. There’ll also be some new characters, including a secret one played by Jena Malone, who was cut from the theatrical release."

So I guess we won’t be seeing Jena Malone come March 25th.  Let’s do some quick speculating.  Malone was heavily rumored to play Barbara Gordon — who will, one day, if not already, become Oracle after her devastating encounter with the homicidal Joker.  If the R-rated version has more violent scenes, and her appearance was cut out, does this mean Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had a key scene from Batman: The Killing Joke (1988)?  Batman and comic fans will know what I mean.  In The Killing Joke, the Joker shot Barbara through the spine, paralyzing her and ending her career as Batgirl.  She later found another way to fight crime — as Oracle, supporting Batman and Robin via technology and information.

Entertainment Weekly promises that more information about the Ultimate Edition will be revealed soon, so stay tuned.
