Legends Of Tomorrow Tidbits – “Left Behind”
By Steve Lam
“Left Behind” — the ninth episode of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow picks up right where we left off in “Night of the Hawk.” With Rip and the team scrambling to reassemble the Legends (Leonard being taken by Chronos, and Sara finding her way back to Nanda Parbat), this episode is probably the most twist-filled ones we’ve received to-date.
Quick Recap of Legends of Tomorrow – “Left Behind”
The Waverider is under attack by Chronos, and Ray, Kendra, and Sara watch it take off without them. On the ship, Rip, Leonard, Martin, and Jax try to battle Chronos with no success. Leonard tries to hold him off while the other three get to the jumpship. When they return for Leonard, they discover that he’s been taken by Chronos, who’s also sabotaged the Waverider. They’ll now have to wait for Gideon to come back online to stop them from falling through time.

In 1958, Ray, Kendra, and Sara have concluded that the team is probably dead and that they’ll need to go on without them. After some time, Sara makes the decision to go off on her own. Though only a few hours have passed on the Waverider, two years have passed for the stranded team. Rip, Martin, and Jax are able to pick up Ray and Kendra in 1960. Their main concerns now are to find Sara and Leonard.
Leonard is a prisoner on Chronos’s ship. It’s finally revealed that Chronos is Mick. When Leonard abandoned Mick after the events of “Marooned,” Mick was found by the Time Masters, who took him to the Vanishing Point and trained him for many lifetimes. Mick later volunteered to hunt down the Legends as revenge.
Kendra theorizes that Sara may have rejoined the League of Assassins because she was looking for something familiar. Kendra’s assumptions are later proven correct when Rip finds Sara’s name registered in the Shadow Record. The team then makes their way to Nanda Parbat, but Sara turns on them and alerts the League to their presence, resulting in their capture. Rip determines that Sara, due to being in an alien timeline for far too long, has now forgotten who she is.
Chronos finally tracks down the Waverider and makes his way to Nanda Parbat. Leonard, left alone on the ship, frees himself with his freeze gun by freezing and shattering his hand.
The Legends are ordered to be executed by Ra’s, but Rip finds a loophole and requests a trial by combat. Ra’s, instead, chooses Sara as his proxy. Rip responds by choosing Kendra. When Sara is about to kill Kendra, Kendra calls her the White Canary. Sara hears this name and immediately reverts back to her old self.
Chronos suddenly ambushes the League’s fortress. Ra’s frees the rest of the Legends to fight Chronos. The bounty hunter is finally overpowered by the team and captured. On board the Waverider, Rip tells the team that he intends to reform Mick. Later, Rip tells them team that they will be going to 2147 to make a final stand against Vandal Savage.

Character Highlights
Is it a surprise that Leonard Snart once again takes the title of the most interesting character? Always appearing to have a calm and cool demeanor, Leonard showed some genuine anger when Mick threatened the life of his sister. Also, Leonard has fully arced into a hero in this episode, as he’s literally willing to lose a limb to save the lives of his team.
Easter Eggs and References
- The episode title “Left Behind” was also an Arrow Season 3 episode title which had Oliver Queen presumably killed by Ra’s al Ghul.
- Hub City, the location where Ray, Kendra, and Sara set up their home after being stranded, is the name of the home city of the Question and other Charlton Comics characters.
- Talia al Ghul, the more famous of Ra’s al Ghul’s daughters, was introduced in this episode. In the comics, she’s been a romantic interest for Batman and later goes on to have a son with him. The son’s name is Damian Wayne — the current Robin.
- The Shadow Record that Rip uses to find Sara is an homage to the other name for the League of Assassins — the League of Shadows.
Questions
- Was Mick also the Chronos who pursued the team since the start of the show? Or is Chronos a title that is bequeathed and passed down to various Time Master bounty hunters?
- What’s Rip’s excuse for not revealing to the team that they could’ve gone to 2147 from the start?
