Chris Evans Wants To Keep Playing Captain America
By D. Goodman
At a recent press conference, Chris Evans indicated he would be open to continuing to play Captain America in future movies.
It has now been eight years since Iron Man flew onto theater screens everywhere and the Marvel Cinematic Universe was born. In that time Marvel Studios has become one of the premiere filmmakers in Hollywood, releasing 12 interconnected movies that have grossed over $3.5 billion worldwide.
The latest film in the franchise, Captain America: Civil War, is set to debut this week to what could be a huge opening weekend. In addition, later this year will see the addition of Doctor Strange to the roster as well as Black Panther and Captain Marvel further down the line.
One question that fans have been asking repeatedly since Marvel revealed their plans for a shared universe of films was what happens when certain actors decide to leave? Robert Downey Jr. has said time and again that he has no interest in doing Iron Man 4 (although that seems to change weekly) and Chris Hemsworth has already made it clear that Avengers: Infinity War will likely be his last time playing Thor.

Do you try to recast the roles? Kill them off? Have them fade into the background?
Luckily for all of us, that apparently won’t be an issue anytime soon with Captain America.
Comic Book Resources recently attended a press conference for the forthcoming Captain America: Civil War and star Chris Evans was asked about how long he thinks he will play Captain America on screen.
"“In the first couple years of your involvement in the franchise, you’re very internal. You’re scared about being the thing that’s going to cause it [to fail], you’re going to be awful, and you’re very terrified in a very ego-ic manner. But as you kind of continue on the journey, you kind of realize how amazing it is what they’re doing and what they’re accomplishing and how fortunate you are to be a part of this unbelievable inter-webbing of stories. You kind of are just so fortunate to be a part of it.“I say, ‘Keep going. Let’s keep going. Let’s let the wave get bigger and bigger.’ It’s not stopping. It’s not like they’re making bad movies. They’re making great movies… Especially the Russos, they ground them in such an authentic way. It’s real humans, real struggles, real conflict, good cinematic storytelling with, like, a streak of superhero flavor in it. So I say, keep going. If you can keep doing it, keep doing it.”"
Even though Marvel has done a great job bringing in hew heroes to replace the core group of Iron Man/Thor/Captain America, it would be a real shame to see the MCU continue into Phase Four without at least one of them headlining their own movie. If it’s Cap and Evans that carries the banner into the future, all the better.
More superheroes and comics: More Spider-Man In New Captain America: Civil War TV Spots
Much like in the comics, while many consider Iron Man the flagship character of the MCU, Evans and Cap are the heart and soul of the whole thing. There is no downside to having Evans around to make more Marvel movies even if they have increase his pay to keep him interested.
If the Russo Brothers are willing to direct it and Evans will star in it, a fourth Captain America film sure sounds like a great idea to me.
Captain America: Civil War opens everywhere this Friday, May 6.
