Black Widow May Finally Be Getting Her Own Movie
By D. Goodman
If comments made by Kevin Feige is any indication, fans may finally get the Black Widow solo film they have been asking for.
Almost from the instant Scarlett Johansson made her debut as the Black Widow in Iron Man 2 back in 2010, fans have been clamoring for her to get her own solo movie. That chorus only became louder when fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe saw the line up for Phase Three and while Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange got movies, there was still no love for a movie starring Natasha Romanova.
When you think about it, the fact that Black Widow hasn’t had a movie to call her own is downright silly. She was a key part of both Avengers films as well as Captain America: Winter Soldier and the just released Captain America: Civil War.
In terms of female Marvel heroes, there is probably no one in the MCU with a higher profile. And much of that is because of what Johansson brings to the character.

In the past Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors of Civil War, have expressed interest in making a Black Widow film, telling Comics Alliance back in January:
"“We find that the character is one of the richest, if not the richest, character in the Marvel universe. She’s a very complex character. She’s haunted by demons and her understanding of the world is fascinating. I think there is a lot that can be done with that character.”"
It seems Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige might finally be listening.
Feige was recently interviewed by Deadline about all things Marvel and the question of which supporting characters might be ready to headline their own film came up. And while there was no confirmation, it sure sounds like a solo Black Widow adventure is part of Marvel’s Phase Four plans.
"“We’ve announced the next nine movies, ten counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow.”"
As for why the time may finally be right for a Black Widow movie?
"“We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a standalone franchise.”"

Feige has already established that once Phase Three wraps up with Avengers: Infinity War Part II (or whatever it ends up being called) we will see a very different MCU afterwards. If it ends up finally including a Black Widow solo film starring Scarlett Johansson, it will make a tremendous number of fans very happy.
Including me.
Captain America: Civil War, featuring Natasha Romanova, is in theaters now.
