“Marvel’s Agent Carter:” Hope For Another Season?

Agent Carter herself is ready to live another day

Marvel’s Agent Carter was canceled after its second season on ABC, which did not come as a surprise to most people. The show’s ratings fell with each passing episode, even in the first season. Despite favorable reviews and rabid fan support, the ratings continued to tumble, and the show was put out of its misery.

But what if our favorite British SHIELD agent magically showed up for another season?

Speaking at the 2016 MegaCon in Orlando, Florida, Hayley Atwell herself talked about her love for Agent Carter and how much she would love to bring it back. Despite headlining a new ABC legal drama, Conviction, she said she’d be willing to “shoot on the weekends.” Atwell also went on to say:

"“I love Peggy. I love the people that were working on this project together. The fans are incredibly warm and welcoming. And it would be an absolute privilege and honor to bring her back for the fans.”"

There is even a Change.org petition to bring Agent Carter back to the small screen.

Hayley Atwell is so beloved by every part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that scenes have been added into movies so that she can appear in them (Ant-Man, Avengers: Age of Ultron). Despite not appearing in Captain America: Civil War, her unfortunate death (though not surprising at the age of 95) still brought tears to my eyes.

Of course, ABC won’t bring back Agent Carter, but that doesn’t mean she is dead and gone. And with the star wanting to return in some capacity, honestly, you shouldn’t let that pass you up.

So it it possible for the CW to pick it up like they did with Supergirl? More than likely no. The best option is probably Netflix.

Peggy would join the likes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and the future Iron Fist and Punisher series. There wouldn’t be any sort of crossovers at all between her show and the other Marvel Netflix shows… unless, of course, she somehow stumbles into fighting ninjas and Stick just happens to show up.

I digress.

Marvel’s Agent Carter could work on Netflix. It wouldn’t have to be as dark and gritty as Daredevil or Jessica Jones. It could still keep its bubbly persona, and most of that comes from being set in the 1940s. Being kept a period piece and allowed to run more in the fifty minute timeframe would give the show a little more breathing room.

It would be fun to see Peggy spread her wings on Netflix. The season could show Peggy and Sousa starting on founding SHIELD alongside Howard Stark while following the mystery of who straight-up killed Jack Thompson in cold blood over that fake redacted Peggy Carter file. The Agent Carter one-shot on the Iron Man 3 DVD showed how Peggy gets recruited to start SHIELD from the SSR, and it would be awesome to see that actually play out.

Obviously, the possibilities for another season of Agent Carter are endless, as I’ve already come up with multiple ideas before. Peggy Carter is one of the MCU’s best characters, and Marvel/ABC/Disney would be hard-pressed to just drop her like that. (Or maybe I just really want them to use any of my 1940s music ideas…)

Hey, if fan effort brought Chuck back on multiple occasions, why can’t it do the same for Agent Carter?
