“Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2” Teaser At SDCC

Marvel Studios is back at SDCC with a vengeance, and it might just be bringing a “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” teaser

Guardians of the Galaxy tends to make a big splash at San Diego Comic-Con. The year before the first movie came out, I remember reading all the “reports” of the teaser that had been shown and waiting for what felt like eternity for it to show up officially on the internet. No one knew what to expect from it, most of the mainstream public not knowing anything about the Guardians themselves.
Some of you may recall that I had a lot of feelings surrounding the first Guardians of the Galaxy. While the second may not have the emotional side for me (yet! There’s still time for babies! People in my family like to have babies around Marvel movie premieres!), that doesn’t mean I’m any less excited.

It was reported over the weekend that a teaser trailer will most likely be premiering at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. While Marvel Studios sat out last year’s SDCC, they already have a spot in Hall H waiting for them. With Doctor Strange in the fall and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 next May, they would be stupid not to have a presence at one of the biggest nerd gatherings.

Both director James Gunn and Chris Pratt will be in attendance (all that’s been confirmed for now), and Gunn even took to Twitter to discuss the possibility of any Guardians of the Galaxy footage:

This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. For the first movie, we had to wait until February to finally see the teaser trailer that was shown at SDCC. We probably won’t get the teaser ASAP after SDCC, unless some brave soul leaks it online and loses their life in the process.

But the information that we’ll learn from the panels might just be enough to tide us over for a while.

I think the bigger focus will be on Doctor Strange since that premieres sooner than Guardians of the Galaxy and there’s been a fair amount of internet backlash regarding the whitewashing of the Asian culture. Plus, how much does the public really know about Doctor Strange? He’s going to be doing some heavy lifting of mysticism, and that rumored Soul Gem appearance is going to have to tie it all back in…

Marvel has no problem selling its lower-tiered heroes and making them successful; Guardians of the Galaxy has proven that by being the highest grossing superhero movie of 2014 and the most successful August opening. Vol. 2 will be held up to a higher standard because its first was so successful and so well-received.

Gunn’s comment of the public having to wait for a while for a teaser may not be as long as we had to wait for the first movie. For the 2014 SDCC, the fall MCU movie was Thor: The Dark World, which held a teaser for the next MCU movie, which was not Guardians, but rather Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

This time around, the fall movie is Doctor Strange, most likely heavily promoted at SDCC, and it should have a teaser attached to it for the next MCU movie, which would be Guardians Vol. 2.

But only time will tell. For now, let’s see what nuggets of information we get from SDCC.
