Dragoncon 2016: Flash/Arrow Panel Highlights
The stars of Flash (and one star of Arrow) talked about costumes, twists and more at this year’s Dragoncon
So before I start this recap, I’d just like to note that while this was billed as a Flash/Arrow panel, it was really 3 guests from Flash and Summer Glau. Summer Glau was a major character on the past season of Arrow. But for anybody expecting a balanced mix of characters from both shows that’s a bit of a disappointment. But like most panels at Dragoncon this year, it was still an incredibly fun one to attend. Here are some highlights from the panel which also featured Carlos Valdez (Cisco), Teddy Sears (Jay Garrick/Zoom) and Violett Beane (Jesse):
One of the first questions asked was how the cast felt about putting on costumes:
Teddy Sears felt like he was eight years old again putting on a costume. It was awesome.
Valdez was ready for a cool costume, but was kind of dissapointed when he find out Reverb just wore normal clothing like a jacket and jeans.
Summer Glau said the pants she wore on Arrow were so tight her husband had to actually pick her up and shake her into them.
Then it was asked how long Zoom’s identity was kept a secret from the rest of the cast:
Jay Being Zoom was kept secret for a long time, though Sears knew about it from the start. Valdez noted that they heard rumors about it being Jay, but thought they weren’t true because that didn’t make any sense.

Beane said that whenever Teddy wasn’t there, it was just a stunt guy in a Zoom suit, and Zoom’s voice was even someone else (actor Tony Todd). So they were kind of kept in the dark for almost half the season. Sears thought the writers might change their mind because 7 episodes in Zoom hasn’t been unmasked and it could be anyone still. But that was because he really liked playing Jay. But he also said playing the bad guy is more fun, so it was still really exciting when that happened.
They talked a little bit about the upcoming Flash/Supergirl musical crossover episode. Carlos Valdez hinted that there might be some original songs. Producer Greg Berlanti has also mentioned this possibility in recent interviews.
Valdez also mentioned that he and Tom Cavanaugh improvise and change their lines quite a bit.
Carlos Valdez said he gets to pick out the unique T-Shirts he wears on the show. But it is a collaborative effort with the show’s costume designer. She gave him sites with those styles of t-shirts to look at, and let her know if there were any styles that fit Cisco. Valdez says he picked out at least 50 and sent them to her. Most were about cats. He did mention that sometimes issues come up with rights because some other company might own what’s on a t-shirt. He teased that we might get to see Cisco’s apartment for the first time in the upcoming season of the Flash.

And that’s the highlights of the Flash/Arrow panel from Dragoncon 2016. It was a great time and I highly recommend going if you can (and book a hotel and buy tickets as soon as possible. Like now, seriously). Flash returns for it’s third season on Tuesday October 4th and Arrow returns for it’s 5th on Wednesday October 5th on The CW network.
