Powerless Takes Place In A Wayne Enterprises Company?

Powerless now takes place at a company owned by Wayne Enterprises that develops security devices for everyday bystanders

Ok I admit to skimming that synopsis of Powerless that was posted in a previous article, because I totally missed this. When we first heard about Powerless, it was supposed to be taking place at an insurance company. That’s why everybody compared it to Marvel’s “Damage Control”, it was a very similar concept. And that’s what the leaked trailer (which we can’t really show on this site, but you can find really easily if you look) set up.

Apparently, the premise has changed drastically though, and it was right there in the synopsis. Instead of a random insurance company, Powerless now takes place at Wayne Security. Wayne Security of not surprisingly owned by Wayne Enterprises. And what they do is develop products that make “defenseless bystanders feel safer”. Ok, fair enough. One problem with that is that then the trailer makes literally no sense. It’s all Alan Tudyk coming in as a new jerk of a boss and demanding the employees up denials by 25%. It even describes Vanessa Hudgens’ character as a claims adjuster for a “very special kind of insurance company” that’s clearly not a company that develops products, that’s not what an insurance company does, period.

So it seems like the entire premise of the show has changed. Will that make Powerless better? And what caused this abrupt change of premise? Granted, shows can change a lot from when a pilot is first shot, but this change seems to have taken place in the last few months as the pilot was shown at San Diego Comic Con and did not indicate any of this. And also, since it’s a company owned by Wayne Enterprises, could Bruce Wayne possibly pop up? Guess we’ll see when Powerless debuts on NBC Thursday, February 2nd…
