It was revealed on Monday that Swamp Thing is the latest hero to join the ever growing roster of heroes in Injustice 2.

There is no question that Injustice: Gods Among Us was the superhero fighting game every fanboy had been waiting for. A deep roster of characters, a compelling story and smooth controls made for a game that you could play over and over.

Which is just what many of us did. I know I’ve wasted spent hours and hours playing the game, refining my moves and trying to kick butt online. And since I know you’re curious, I play strictly as Deathstroke, the Terminator. Gotta love that sword.

Fans have been impatiently waiting for an announcement concerning a sequel. You knew there was going to be one, but the wait for some kind of news about it was killing players everywhere.

More from Video Games

Last spring we finally got the news we had been jumping out of our seats to hear. Injustice 2 would arrive in May of 2017 and feature a massive cast of characters, another deep, immersive storyline and all the new bells and whistles gamers have come to expect.

But how deep would the roster of characters be? So far we’ve seen it will include all the heroes and villains a fan would expect. Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman and Deadshot have all been announced as well as character such as Blue Beetle, Poison Ivy and Black Canary.

Now you can add Swamp Thing to the list.

Revealed on Monday by IGN, Swamp Thing has officially joined the roster for Injustice 2. It’s the first “out of the box” addition to game and should make for some very interesting battles.

I mean, look at that reach. While Swamp Thing may not be an obvious choice for a fighting game, it looks like the developers have done an outstanding job adapting him into the world of Injustice.

There are still a number of characters yet to be announced. WB Games seems intent to drag out the reveals as long as possible, which is fine as long as the game lives up to the pedigree of the original.

And given what we’ve seen so far, that doesn’t look like it’s going to be a problem.

Injustice 2 arrives for both Xbox One and Playstation 4 on May 16, 2017.
