Is Axel Alonso Teasing The Return Of Hulk, Wolverine Or Both?
By D. Goodman
Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso revealed an image that might be teasing the return of a couple of dead Marvel characters… I think.
Much has been made over the last few years that the Marvel Universe is pretty much unrecognizable to many longtime fans. Tony Stark, Bruce Banner and Wolverine are all dead or out of the picture, Captain America is a Nazi and Thor is a woman.

According to Marvel, this was done in order to promote diversity in the Marvel Universe, and for the most part it worked. Marvel Comics now represents a much broader spectrum of what America really looks like.
But was it too much, too soon?
The comments readers have made about the stories and a serious drop in sales may bear that out. The last few Marvel super-mega crossover events didn’t get a great reaction from fans or critics, with Civil War II considered a massive disappointment for the publisher. In addition, the pattern of relaunch after relaunch after relaunch has turned a lot of the Marvel faithful away.
The result is that rumors have begun to swirl that Marvel is preparing for another reboot, but one that will return the Marvel Universe to a more familiar place. Modeled after DC Rebirth, the initiative will bring back many characters and creators that have been missing from the Marvel landscape for quite some time.
And on Twitter, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso may have teased the return of two of them. Kind of.
As you can see, given the color and the size of the person in the tube, you would have to think it heralds the return of Bruce Banner, the original Incredible Hulk. But then you notice that he has… claws?
So is this some kind of Hulk/Wolverine mash-up? Or does this have something to do with Secret Empire, Marvel’s next super-mega crossover event launching in a few months? The last time anyone saw the Bruce Banner version of the Hulk he was being given to Captain America (that would be Hydra agent Steve Rogers) by the ninja clan The Hand. You know, the ones that can bring people back to life?
Curiouser and curiouser.

At this point there is no information available other than the image, so speculate away what it could all mean. But it looks like at least one classic Marvel character will be making a much-desired comeback.
