Marvel Announces Weapons Of Mutant Destruction

Marvel has revealed the details of Weapons Of Mutant Destruction, a crossover between Weapon X and Totally Awesome Hulk.

Last week Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso teased an image on his Twitter feed that had fans thinking we might finally be seeing the return of Logan as Wolverine, Bruce Banner as the Incredible Hulk or maybe both.

The striking image featured a very Hulk-like creature in a green tube being watched by scientists. The tube had “Batch H” printed on it and, oh yeah, the creature also had claws that were very Wolverine-like.

Turns out the image wasn’t teasing anything even remotely close to what fans thought it was.

As revealed on ComicBook.com on Wednesday, the image was actually teasing the next Marvel event, Weapons of Mutant Destruction. The storyline will see the new Weapon X ongoing crossover with Totally Awesome Hulk, both of which are written by Greg Pak.

The story will see Amadeus Cho team up with Old Man Logan and his crew to fight the Weapon X program. The main thrust of the story sees the group deal with the “Batch H” threat that readers saw a glimpse of in the teaser.

In an interview about the crossover with ComicBook.com, Pak talked about the fact that Wolverine/Hulk stories are usually a fun time for everyone, but this will be the first meeting between these two particular versions of these characters.

"In this case, we’ve got Old Man Logan who’s the old Logan from the future coming up against Amadeus Cho, who’s the new Hulk, this cocky kid who took the power of the Hulk from Banner with the idea that Amadeus would become the best Hulk there ever was. This power is not a curse to him. It’s just almost like an insanely fun toy. Of course, he’s got a lot to learn about what it really means to be the Hulk but that gives us a different dynamic now.That’s going to be something fun to explore, how we think we know what a Hulk-Wolverine conflict or team up looks like, but with these two versions of these characters surprising different things can come up, and that’s always fun."

The crossover will launch with an one-shot titled Weapons of Mutant Destruction #1 which will be drawn by Mahmud Asrar. From there the event will alternate between the two titles before wrapping up in Totally Awesome Hulk #22.

What may be most shocking about this announcement is the small scope of the crossover. It reminds me more of the old school events Marvel used to publish and not the sprawling mega-events we have all gotten so tired of over the last few years.

Who knows. This one might actually be worth reading.
