Brie Larson Explains Her and Marvel Studios’ Version Of Captain Marvel

Brie Larson has put some serious thought into how she will handle her role as Captain Marvel.

We still have a little less than two years until Captain Marvel hits theaters. However, actress Brie Larson has been more than willing to talk about the character and what she wants for the role.

During an interview with SciFi Now Magazine (via Reddit), Larson talked about a number of things concerning the role. She discussed her disbelief at the fact that she’s actually part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

"Being a member of the Marvel family now, it’s still really surreal. I still can’t believe it to be honest, so very “pinch me.”"

Larson also admitted the fact that some fans may not be pleased with her take on the character due to the various incarnations of Carol Danvers throughout her publication history:

"To be fair, there are a lot of iterations of her, so there’s going to be some people out there who think this isn’t right."

She makes a good point. Taking elements from every version of Captain Marvel, and combining them into a single unit would be almost impossible. In their films, Marvel Studios usually does maintain the essence of the characters, but they do still find a way to make them unique to the MCU. With that said, Larson also talked about what fans can expect from the MCU’s Captain Marvel:

"She’s a believer in truth and justice, and she is a bridge between two worlds, between Earth and space. She’s fighting between the flaws that are within her and all this good that she wants to try and spread, and make the world a better place. She can also fly and shoot things out of her hands. And she’s really funny!"

This makes total sense. One of the things that makes Captain Marvel unique in the comics is that her powers are very cosmic-based, yet many of her adventures take place on earth. Based on Larson’s comments, it seems that Marvel Studios is taking that cue from the comics.

Although her solo film is still a little less than two years away, it’s definitely possible that we could see the character appear in next year’s Avengers: Infinity War to help take on Thanos. But, of course, this is merely an assumption.
